Update: King's Birthday Hours

We are open as per usual for the King’s Birthday public holiday on Monday June 8th. Come join us for an evening on Gertrude Street.

Our Story

In 2002 we visited Italy, searching for inspiration. We returned to Melbourne and in 2003 we opened Ladro as one of Gertrude Street's first restaurants. Our wood-fired pizza & signature pasta quickly become a local favourite. Today our mission remains the same: Italian dishes made for Melbourne.

"Went out for dinner on Saturday night here food was absolutely delicious mouth watering the staff were so welcoming and so friendly. We walked in and were seated within seconds definitely recommend this place. I had the Mussles from the starter menu as a main and was so filling the wood fired pizzas were to die for."

Yasmin El Emary

"A good place for good thin crust pizzas with very compact seating. This place offers gluten free and normal pizzas with delicious toppings that won't make you feel heavy. We enjoyed our tasty Porcini and Gorgonzola and Pescatore seafood pizzas, which came in a 6-slice portion size. The thin, crispy base doesn't detract from the flavours, a job well done. Friendly and efficient service in a simple, modern and functional space, Ladro is worth checking out in this competitive neighborhood."

Joanne Lung

"Despite being busy they found me a spot by the window, the pizza made a very good showing. The sauce was light and bright, the dough well formed and had just the right amount of slight charring on the bottom. All the ingredients were fresh, overall a worthwhile trip."

James Deucker

"Silky soft gnocchi, delicious wine and great kids meals. Would love to return again."

"Traditional Italian food with some European ambiance"

"I first visited Ladro when they opened 15 years ago and they had the best pizzas in Melbourne. On my return 15 years later they are still going strong! Good pizza and pasta menu with gluten free options on the pizza. Good drinks menu and friendly service. Pizzas are woodfired traditional and very thin base. Simple toppings with good flavour. There are better pizzas around now, but you still won't be disappointed here"

Aaron Soroka

"Recently organized a conference dinner for 70 people at Ladro On Gertrude. Wanted to say a big thank you to the team. The food was excellent and plentiful, various dietary requirements were met, the staff were friendly and efficient, everyone was happy."
