Fitzroy Italian Restaurant

Wood-fired pizza, pasta and tiramisu. Inspired by Italy, made for Melbourne.

Gourmet pizzas with drinks on a dining table.

Our Story

In 2002 we visited Italy, searching for inspiration. We returned to Melbourne and in 2003 we opened Ladro as one of Gertrude Street's first restaurants. Our wood-fired pizza & signature pasta quickly become a local favourite. Today our mission remains the same: Italian dishes made for Melbourne.

Reviews

Words from the locals

"Good food, good service, good atmosphere."

Dean White

"Lots of great pizza in this area but Ladro is probably my favourite. The gold standard for margheritas. Excellent tomato paste coupled with light and creamy fior di latte. Thin, crispy crust that can be enjoyed on its own. No grease and easy on the stomach. Close to perfection."

Justin S

"Ladro ticks every box"

Antoinette Russo

"Some solid dishes, really fast service and reasonable prices."

Fran Marval

"We had the Patate pizza, the ragu gnocchi and the rocket salad. All were exceptional. Especially the cloud soft gnocchi. All the pizzas can be gluten free, and the calamari already is."

"Delicious , simple Italian, well priced and generous mains, sexy little sides and an interesting, yet accessible wine list. Come here for a first date or a date night. The staff will make you feel at home ."

"The best meal I've had in a long time! The potato pizza, rucola salad and calamari were stand-outs, but honestly, you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. Service is friendly. A really nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon, sitting outside in the sunshine with great atmosphere and exceptional food. We can't wait to go back!"

"We had the margherita and porcini e gorgozola pizzas, the insalata di spinaci size dish and the tiramisu for dessert and the dishes did not disappoint. The ambiance is really nice - good for a casual date. Big enough to fit large groups. They do have a section at the back that they can probably close off if you book. Overall, lovely dining experience. Will come back for more."
