Fitzroy Italian Restaurant

Wood-fired pizza, pasta and tiramisu. Inspired by Italy, made for Melbourne.

Gourmet pizzas with drinks on a dining table.

Our Story

In 2002 we visited Italy, searching for inspiration. We returned to Melbourne and in 2003 we opened Ladro as one of Gertrude Street's first restaurants. Our wood-fired pizza & signature pasta quickly become a local favourite. Today our mission remains the same: Italian dishes made for Melbourne.

"I first visited Ladro when they opened 15 years ago and they had the best pizzas in Melbourne. On my return 15 years later they are still going strong! Good pizza and pasta menu with gluten free options on the pizza. Good drinks menu and friendly service. Pizzas are woodfired traditional and very thin base. Simple toppings with good flavour. There are better pizzas around now, but you still won't be disappointed here"

Aaron Soroka

"We had the margherita and porcini e gorgozola pizzas, the insalata di spinaci size dish and the tiramisu for dessert and the dishes did not disappoint. The ambiance is really nice - good for a casual date. Big enough to fit large groups. They do have a section at the back that they can probably close off if you book. Overall, lovely dining experience. Will come back for more."

"My parents and I visited this restaurant on a warm Sunday night, and we were not disappointed. The service was wonderful, food was fantastic (and they were very nice to make accomodations) and drinks were delightful as well. Best of all the atmosphere is just wonderful being light and airy, filled with delicious smells and soft music. I will for sure have to return :)"

Ellie Plunkett

"Delectable menu at fair prices with excellent service"

Julie O’Connor

"The best meal I've had in a long time! The potato pizza, rucola salad and calamari were stand-outs, but honestly, you can't go wrong with whatever you choose. Service is friendly. A really nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon, sitting outside in the sunshine with great atmosphere and exceptional food. We can't wait to go back!"

"Arrived without a booking at 12 on Sunday with family including 2 small children .great service kids had special menu and colouring pages. But still had great”adult” feel too. Great music and service, and kids entertained by watching the pizzas being made Highly recommended for adults and families alike"

"Wow! The food was made beautifully! The waiters were friendly and fast. The pizzas were cooked to perfection. The squid with cucumber and mango tasted amazing. The salami pasta tasted great! We were seated outside in the cold but that’s because the place was fully booked but other than that the experience was fantastic."

"Best pizza in Melbourne"

Mauro Bigolin

"Friendly staff, awesome food! Can't wait to visit again!"

Dion Papadopoulos

"First time here, margarita pizza was yum! Tomato base was tasty and tangy tomato, could do more cheese but it was good. Friend liked her gluten free base too! Will return and want to taste pasta!!"

Madeline “Maddie” Silins

"A good place for good thin crust pizzas with very compact seating. This place offers gluten free and normal pizzas with delicious toppings that won't make you feel heavy. We enjoyed our tasty Porcini and Gorgonzola and Pescatore seafood pizzas, which came in a 6-slice portion size. The thin, crispy base doesn't detract from the flavours, a job well done. Friendly and efficient service in a simple, modern and functional space, Ladro is worth checking out in this competitive neighborhood."

Joanne Lung

"Good pizza. Garlic bread was amazing."
